Philippine Sabong Regulations: Legal Framework, GAB & Local Ordinances
Compiled by legal researchers specializing in Philippine administrative law, municipal ordinances, and Games and Amusements Board (GAB) charters.
Understand the legal architecture of cockfighting in the Philippines. Learn how traditional arena derbies operate under local government code permits and GAB supervisory standards.
Cockfighting holds a unique legal status in the Philippines, protected and regulated under Presidential Decree No. 449 (The Cockfighting Law of 1974). This guide details the legal regulations that ensure integrity and fairness in authorized derbies.
The Role of Local Governments and the GAB
Municipal and city councils license physical arena venues, while the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) licenses professional referees, gaffers, and bet callers.
This dual regulatory framework ensures that championship derbies adhere to transparent weigh-in standards, sanitary requirements, and fair fight resolutions.
Responsible Gaming in the Philippines
Online gambling is intended strictly for adults aged 21 years old and older as mandated by Philippine law and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). Treat betting as entertainment, never as an income solution. Set strict deposit limits before starting any session.
